Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

If you are getting cranky irritable sobbing before menses, you may be suffering from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. 



Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder  
Very commonly seen in women   . Thereare marked mood swings and irritability , anger outbursts during menstruations . It can be treated if diagnosed  .

Diagnostic Criteria                                       625.4 (N94.3)
A. In the majority of menstrual cycles, at least five symptoms must be present in the final week before the onset of menses, start to improve within a few days after the onset of menses, and become minimal or absent in the week postmenses.
(हमेशा मासिक धर्म (माहवारी ) के चालू होने के एक हफ्ते पहले लक्षणों का दिखाना और मासिक धर्म चालू होने के बाद लक्षणों का कम होते जाना या बंद हो जाना )

B. One (or more) of the following symptoms must be present:
1.  Marked affective lability (e.g., mood swings; feeling suddenly sad or tearful, or increased sensitivity to rejection).
( भावनाओ का असमतोल . कभी अत्यंत आबंद तो कभी तुरंत उदासी ; कभी अचानक छोटीसी बात पर रोना आ जाना ; खुद को और लोग टाल रहे हैं ऐसा लगना)
2.  Marked irritability or anger or increased interpersonal conflicts.
(घुस्सा , चिडचिडापन , आपसी मन मुटाव )
3.  Marked depressed mood, feelings of hopelessness, or self-deprecating thoughts.
(उदासी , निराशा , खुद को कोसते रहना )
4.  Marked anxiety, tension, and/or feelings of being keyed up or on edge.
(घबराहट बैचनी, टेंशन , तनाव)

C. One (or more) of the following symptoms must additionally be present, to reach a total of five symptoms when combined with symptoms from Criterion B above.
1.  Decreased interest in usual activities (e.g., work, school, friends, hobbies).
(रोज के काम में मन न लगना )
2.  Subjective difficulty in concentration.
(ध्यान न लगना , मन विचलित हो जाना )
3.  Lethargy, easy fatigability, or marked lack of energy.
(थकावट , स्फूर्ति की कमी , कमजोरी की भावना )



4.  Marked change in appetite; overeating; or specific food cravings.
(भुक मैं बदलाव , कुछ खास चीजे खाने की इच्छा होना, ज्यादा खाना , कभी कभी भुक कम हो जाना )
5.  Hypersomnia or insomnia.
(नींद बहुत ज्यादा या कम आना )
6.  A sense of being overwhelmed or out of control.
(सभी चीजे अपने कण्ट्रोल से बाहर जा रही हैं ऐसा लगना)
7.  Physical symptoms such as breast tenderness or swelling, joint or muscle pain, a sensation of “bloating,” or weight gain.
(सिने मैं दर्द , पेट मैं गैस जैसा लगना, सभी जोड़ो और स्नायुओं मैं दर्द होना )
Note:  The symptoms in Criteria A-C must have been met for most menstrual cycles that occurred in the preceding year.
D. The symptoms are associated with clinically significant distress or interference with work, school, usual social activities, or relationships with others. (e.g., avoidance of social activities; decreased productivity and efficiency at work, school, or home).

E. The disturbance is not merely an exacerbation of the symptoms of another disorder, such as major depressive disorder, panic disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), or a personality disorder (although it may co-occur with any of these disorders).

F. Criterion A should be confirmed by prospective daily rating during at least two symptomatic cycles. (Note:  The diagnosis may be made provisionally prior to this confirmation.)

G. The symptoms are not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication, other treatment) or another medical condition (e.g., hyperthyroidism).


Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

This is a condition which is related to neurotransmitter imbalance . It is a treatable condition.
